Jerry K. Thomasson

Jerry K. Thomasson was Arkansas' 10th director of the Employment Security Division, appointed by Governor Winthrop Rockefeller during his second term. Thomasson served three months, from January 16, 1968 until April 30, 1968. He resigned in May, 1968, to run as the state's Republican candidate for Attorney General.

Director Thomasson, an attorney, was one of four ESD directors appointed during the Rockefeller Administration. He was 36-years old, and serving as Director of the Assessment Coordination Division when he was tapped as ESD Administrator. He also served as librarian for the Arkansas Supreme Court, and was a referee for the Arkansas Workmen's Compensation Commission. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. Thomas Stover was the Director of the Arkansas Department of Labor during Thomasson's tenure.

Governor Winthrop Rockefeller's tenure as leader of the state was one of the most progressive in Arkansas history. It is widely held that Governor Winthrop Rockefeller, who served as Governor in the late `60s, was the forerunner of the changes that would take place in Arkansas government in the `70's, 80's, and even the`90s.
