Henry McHenry

Henry L. McHenry was Arkansas' 14th director of the Employment Security Division. He was still an employee of the Department of Labor's regional office in Dallas, Texas when Governor Bumpers appointed him as administrator of the Agency.

McHenry was the first African American to serve as director of the 37-year-old Agency, serving from October, 1974 until January, 1981. He was also the first director to be appointed to the position by three different governors: Bumpers, Pryor, and Clinton.

He began work with the Agency in October 1974, by outgoing Governor Dale Bumpers, but would be reappointed by newly elected Governor David Pryor, serving both terms of the Pryor administration. He was afterwards reappointed by Governor Bill Clinton, and served during his first term. Charlie Daniels was director of the Arkansas Department of Labor during Director McHenry's tenure.
