John H. Greene

John H. Greene was Arkansas' sixth director of the Employment Security Division. He was appointed by Governor Sid McMath, and served eight months, from September 1952 until May 1953. Director Greene served during the Samuel Pendleton Dixon administration of the Arkansas Department of Labor.

Governor Sidney Sanders McMath led Arkansas state government from 1949-1953. The former decorated U.S. Marine, attorney, and reform politician defied Arkansas' political establishment, championed rapid rural electrification, massive highway and school construction, strict bank and utility regulation, the repeal of the poll tax, and broad expansion of opportunity for black citizens in the decade following World War II.

McMath was a loyal Truman campaigner during the "Dixiecrat" rebellion of 1948, and would continue to fight vigilantly against the Faubus Administration following the 1957 Central High Crisis.
